Senior Planner

Michael Boettcher, AICP

As a Senior Planner and project manager, Michael provides planning, zoning and downtown development services for municipalities throughout Metro Detroit, preparing zoning ordinances, development site plan reviews and grant applications and conducting city hall office hours to be on the front lines for client communities. Prior to joining McKenna, Michael directed two downtown development agencies, managed HUD community development funds for two urban counties and worked in several planning and development roles for the City of Detroit, including authoring sections of the City’s current Master Plan of Policies.

Michael holds a Bachelor of Arts in Geography and a Master of Urban Planning from Wayne State University. He has served the City of Detroit on its Historic District Advisory Council and on two Neighborhood Advisory Councils, representing the voice of the community in front of elected officials and developers regarding two significant development projects. Michael also moonlights as a tour guide, highlighting Detroit history, architecture and redevelopment efforts. He volunteers as well with the Michigan Association of Planning Metro Detroit Planners Section to advance the profession in the region.
