Dan Commer, AICP

Dan Commer, AICP is a Senior Planner with more than a decade of experience in city planning and community development. He enjoys guiding the growth of vibrant healthy communities through a process of agile design thinking, civic engagement, and project execution.

Dan is a passionate advocate on behalf of quality neighborhood parks, shared public spaces, and the advancement of equitable development. He is particularly adept at successfully building and mediating multi-sector partnerships, working collectively with community members, and facilitating consensus among key stakeholder groups. During his career he has developed expertise in parks and open space planning, attainable housing policy and design, evaluating special land use and development requests, and implementing comprehensive long-range planning goals and objectives.
In addition to his professional work experience, Dan is actively involved as a member of the Government Relations Advisory Committee for the Michigan Association of Planning and previously served as a policy delegate to the American Planning Association.

Dan earned a Master of Urban & Regional Planning from the University of Michigan – Ann Arbor and a bachelor’s degree in urban studies from Wayne State University in Detroit.
