When the Bailey Park Neighborhood Development Corporation (NDC) decided to pursue a planning grant with the Kresge Foundation, they retained McKenna as their community planner. The Kresge Foundation awarded the Bailey Park NDC with a grant from the “Kresge Innovative Projects: Detroit (KIP:D)” fund in April 2019.

McKenna prepared the Master Plan for Bailey Park with input from the Bailey park Board, McDougall‑Hunt Residents, and other community stakeholders. We worked closely with landscape architects at InSite Design Studio to ensure that design concepts were representative of the stakeholders’ expressed vision.

Our seat at the table during earlier phases of sustainability planning for the surrounding McDougall-Hunt neighborhood helped to equip the McKenna planning team with knowledge of the neighborhood’s history and a heightened sense of understanding about residents’ current needs.

The final Bailey Park Master Plan contains a vision for a modern, neighborhood-serving 5-acre park with programmed spaces and amenities. It supports the development of an equitable community space at the center of the McDougal‑Hunt community, and is a valuable tool for the neighborhood to use moving forward.
