Faced with a newly vacated Jacobson’s department store and growing concern from the community that the retail heart of Grosse Pointe was in trouble, McKenna Associates helped the City of Grosse Pointe prepare a master plan to address these issues. McKenna’s plan included a retail market analysis by The Strategic Edge, and specific implementation measures to prevent the decline of the Village and reestablish it as a vibrant and thriving Central Business District.
The results have been significant. The former Jacobson’s was reoccupied with national tenants including Trader Joe’s, Anne Taylor Loft, Coldwater Creek, and Jos. A. Bank. In addition, the City selected a preferred developer for a mixed use development occupying two blocks of the Village including residential condominiums, retail, and service uses along with a three story public parking structure. Grosse Pointe is reviewing a proposal for a boutique hotel that will further establish The Village as the heart of Grosse Pointe.
