When the Garden City Downtown Development Authority saw a need for professional leadership for the design and development of their most prominent park and plaza, it immediately looked to McKenna’s Landscape Architects. McKenna designers led the board through exercises to achieve consensus on a design direction, prioritization of phases and selection of an art consultant to assist in placing a rotating collection in the space. Next, McKenna developed site plan review documents, bidding documents and managed the bid process to select a qualified contractor. The DDA’s vision was for the space to serve as more than a public gathering, and become a visual ‘welcome’ to Downtown Garden City.

The improvements, scheduled to be phased over time, fit within the DDA budget and include a masonry screen walls, a large masonry planter with LED backlight letters welcoming passersby to Garden City, and a prominent location for sculpture, accent lighting and landscaping.
