Building Department Services

Van Buren Township, Wayne County, MI
What We Did

The Charter Township of Van Buren, located in western Wayne County, Michigan, has approximately 30,000 residents. It is a developing community with an attractive location for both small and large commercial and industrial facilities. In addition to the many new retail, office, light industrial and logistics developments in Van Buren, the Township’s existing facilities continue to expand.

To promptly service this new construction, the Township Planning and Economic Development Department required a more timely building plan review service to meet its economic development objectives. Many projects had completed the site planning review process, but the Township needed quality building plan review services so construction could commence without undue delay of plan approvals.

McKenna sent a team of certified building plan reviewers and started to immediately provide timely, quality, building plan review and approval for development projects. Not only are McKenna’s services covered by the existing Building Department Fee Schedule (i.e., no additional cost to applicants), McKenna completes its building plan reviews in a week or less. In some cases where re-review is required, McKenna reviews plans the next day.

In the first two months of building plan review services, McKenna promptly completed reviews for several major facilities, including a new grocery store, a new international industrial facility, and many remodeling projects. As Van Buren Township continually looks for ways to streamline its development approval process, McKenna is ready to further assist community leaders with their economic development goals.
