McKENNA DESIGNER NAMED “EMERGING PROFESSIONAL OF THE YEAR” BY MICHIGAN-AMERICAN SOCIETY OF LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTS

Group recognizes Courtney Piotrowski Miller’s excellence in design, professional leadership

(Northville, MI; October 4, 2007) In recognition of her exceptional contribution to the profession of landscape architecture, Courtney Piotrowski Miller, RLA, ASLA, Principal Landscape Architect for McKenna Associates, was named “Emerging Professional of the Year” by the Michigan Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects. The group honored Miller for excellence in design and a continuing record of enhancing public and private spaces through landscape architecture. Miller’s many contributions include design of city parks, recreational areas, streetscapes, mixed-use developments, retail centers, business corridors, open spaces, and downtown areas.

“Helping communities and developers enhance physical environments by creating more beautiful, functional and vibrant places has been extremely rewarding,” said Miller. “To have that work acknowledged by my peers is a tremendous honor of which I’m very proud.”

The “Emerging Professional of the Year Award” recognizes exceptional achievements in the first 10 years of a professional’s career. Miller’s record of success includes contributions to projects throughout Michigan, including the Southfield Public Library, the Henry Ford (Greenfield Village) project, Northville’s Ford Field, in addition to the design of retail, residential and academic developments and numerous parks and plazas. Her most recent projects include the re-design of Twelve Mile Crossing at Fountain Walk in Novi, Michigan and the design of Detroit’s Seven Mile Streetscape for the Arab American Chaldean Council.

“Courtney has distinguished herself through an exquisite sense of design and an expertise in construction,” said Phillip C. McKenna, President and CEO of McKenna Associates. “Her facility with both the creative and the technical aspects of design make her especially valuable to communities and developers, and has no doubt earned her this prestigious honor.”

Miller holds a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture degree from Michigan State University and has studied urban design in the United Kingdom.  She is a member of the American Society of Landscape Architects, CREW Detroit and is a frequent speaker on the topic of community design and placemaking.
